Training and Assessment Program (TAP)

The ACMG's Training and Assessment Program is a professional level industry training program that prepares students for a multitude of careers within the climbing, hiking and skiing sectors of the Adventure Tourism industry.

The program is structured to allow students to specialize in a given field, or to diversify their learning across a variety of disciplines. Training and Assessment Program students are afforded the opportunity to gain certification and ACMG recognition as:

Climbing Gym Instructors;
Via Ferrata Guides;
Top Rope Climbing Instructors;
Hiking Guides;
Rock Guides;
Alpine Guides;
Ski Guides; and
Mountain Guides.

Programs follow a blended delivery model and are comprised of a mix of theoretical online, in-class, and in the field instruction, and practical field-based assessment. Training curriculums and the assessment criteria, adhere to the high standards established by the ACMG, and are recognized by the International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations (IFMGA). Training courses and exams are seasonally offered in satellite locations throughout Canada.

Students who successfully complete any of the certificate programs are eligible to become recognized as professional members of the ACMG under their respective certificate designation(s). Students who achieve both the Training and Assessment Program Alpine Guide and Ski Guide certifications are recognized as IFMGA mountain guides, regarded globally as the highest level of mountain training and certification, and recognized in more than 20 countries around the world.
