Student Scholarships and Awards

The ACMG recognizes the challenges faced by students pursuing training and certification, and administers a variety of student awards and scholarships on behalf of its industry partners and private donors to aid in reducing these barriers. Existing and prospective students who meet the eligibility criteria are strongly encouraged to apply for any of the scholarships or awards available to them. The application deadline for scholarships and awards is August 15 annually.

ACMG Centennial Scholarship

In 1996, the ACMG celebrated 100 years of professional guiding in Canada. Proceeds from that year's IFMGA annual spring meeting and the Alpine Club of Canada's fall Mountain Guides Ball, were used to establish this scholarship which honours the history and tradition of guiding in Canada.

Applications are not accepted for the Centennial Scholarship. A small group of senior Training and Assessment Program instructors selects one student annually to receive the scholarship, based on their demonstrated commitment and performance in the Training and Assessment Program.

Recipients receive a $1000 Training and Assessment Program tuition credit.



Niccy Code Memorial Scholarship

Established in memory of ACMG member Niccy Code. Niccy was an aspiring Mountain Guide whose enthusiasm for the mountains and love of guiding was greatly appreciated by her friends, colleagues, clients, and students. The Niccy Code scholarship is intended to assist promising aspirant guides with preference given to those identifying as female.

Applications are not accepted for the Niccy Code Memorial Scholarship. A small group of senior Training and Assessment Program instructors selects one or more students annually to receive the scholarship, based on their demonstrated commitment and performance in the Training and Assessment Program.

Recipients receive a Training and Assessment Program tuition credit of up to $3000.



Arc'teryx Scholarship

The Arc'teryx Scholarship Program is designed to support students pursuing a career in the mountain guiding field by providing financial assistance for ACMG Training and Assessment Program, training and certification courses.

Arc'teryx Scholarship applicants must be professional members of the ACMG and actively pursuing certification as a Rock Guide, Alpine Guide, Ski Guide or Mountain Guide.

Recipients are selected annually by the ACMG Scholarship Committee and receive a $500, $1000 or $1500 Training and Assessment Program tuition credit.



Arc'teryx Mentorship and Training Fund

The Arc'teryx Mentorship and Training Fund, is designed to support students pursuing a career in the hiking or mountain guiding fields by providing financial assistance for the ACMG Training and Assessment Program Mentorship and Exam Training courses.

Arc'teryx Mentorship and Training Fund applicants must be professional apprentice guide members of the ACMG and actively pursuing certification as a Hiking Guide, Rock Guide, Alpine Guide, Ski Guide or Mountain Guide.

Recipients are selected annually by the ACMG Scholarship Committee and receive a $1000 Training and Assessment Program tuition credit to be applied to the Mentorship and Exam Training course that applies to the recipient's apprentice designation.



Arc'teryx Equipment Award

The Arc'teryx Equipment Award, is designed to support students pursuing a career in the hiking or mountain guiding fields by subsidizing the expense of high-quality outdoor equipment and apparel.

Arc'teryx Equipment Award applicants must be professional apprentice guide members of the ACMG and actively pursuing certification as a Hiking Guide, Rock Guide, Alpine Guide, Ski Guide or Mountain Guide.

Recipients are selected annually by the ACMG Scholarship Committee and receive a $2000 retail equipment credit with Arc'teryx to be applied toward the purchase of Arc'teryx apparel.



Acera Insurance Scholarship

The Acera Insurance Scholarship, is designed to support student pursuing a career in the Ski Guiding field by providing financial assistance for the ACMG Training and Assessment Program Ski Guide certificate exam.

Acera Insurance Scholarship applicants must be professional Apprentice Ski Guide members of the ACMG and actively pursuing certification as a Ski Guide.

Recipients are selected annually by the ACMG Scholarship Committee and receive a $1000 Training and Assessment Program tuition credit to be applied to the recipient's Ski Guide certificate exam.



Kaerus Group Risk Solutions Scholarship

Established by Angela Mackenzie of Kaerus Group Risk Solutions Inc., who has served the ACMG community through her dedication to securing industry-wide liability insurance. This scholarship is is designed to support students pursuing a career in the mountain guiding field by providing financial assistance for ACMG Training and Assessment Program, training and certification courses.

Kaerus Group Risk Solutions Inc. Scholarship applicants must be professional members of the ACMG and actively pursuing certification as a Hiking Guide, Rock Guide, Alpine Guide, Ski Guide or Mountain Guide.

Recipients are selected annually by the ACMG Scholarship Committee and receive a $500 Training and Assessment Program tuition credit.



Furneaux Family Scholarship

In many regards, guiding in the mountains is rooted in privilege. These privileges include not only financial and physical elements, but also having others who believe in your skills, judgement, and experience. Many of us in this profession have benefitted from having those privileges in our lives, but not everyone has that background. John Furneaux's story is one of someone who didn't have the privilege of finances and a straight-forward path, but of someone who moved to Squamish at age 17, living under boulders below the Chief, and who threw everything he had at the mountains. His passion is perhaps one obvious source of his success; however, he also recognizes that if it hadn't been for a few key people who believed in and supported him, he wouldn't have achieved the guiding career he has now. The Furneaux Family Scholarship scholarship is is designed to support students pursuing a career in the mountain guiding field by providing financial assistance for ACMG Training and Assessment Program, training and certification courses.

Furneaux Family Scholarship applicants must be professional members of the ACMG and actively pursuing certification as a Mountain Guide.

Recipients are selected annually by the ACMG Scholarship Committee and receive a $2500 Training and Assessment Program tuition credit.



Skeena Catskiing Scholarship

The Skeena Catskiing Scholarship Program is designed designed to support students pursuing a career in the ski guiding field by providing financial assistance for ACMG Training and Assessment Program Apprentice Ski Guide exam.

Skeena Catskiing Scholarship applicants must be student members of the ACMG who have been accepted into the Ski Guide certification program and are enrolled in the Apprentice Ski Guide exam.

Recipients are selected annually by the ACMG Scholarship Committee and receive a $4000 Training and Assessment Program tuition credit to be applied to the recipient's Apprentice Ski Guide exam.



Brian Ebert Memorial Fund

Established in memory of ACMG member Brian Ebert. Brian was an aspiring Mountain Guide and a prominent figure in the West Coast guiding community. The Brian Ebert scholarship is designed to assist promising aspirant guides would work and reside along the BC coast.

Brian Ebert Memorial Fund applicants must be professional members of the ACMG with an Apprentice Rock Guide, Apprentice Alpine Guide or Apprentice Ski Guide designation.

Recipients are selected annually by the ACMG Scholarship Committee and receive a $500 Training and Assessment Program tuition credit to be applied to the Mentorship and Exam Training course that applies to the recipient's apprentice designation.



Mark Corbett Memorial Scholarship

Established in memory of ACMG member Mark Corbett. Mark was an ACMG Ski Guide and passionate about sharing his love for the mountains and the outdoors with others. The Mark Corbett scholarship is designed to assist Apprentice Ski Guides by providing financial assistance for the ACMG Training and Assessment Program Ski Guide certificate exam.

Mark Corbett Memorial Scholarship applicants must be professional Apprentice Ski Guide members of the ACMG and actively pursuing certification as a Ski Guide.

Recipients are selected annually by the ACMG Scholarship Committee and receive a $1000 Training and Assessment Program tuition credit.



Jordy Shepherd, Canmore-Banff Real Estate Scholarship

The Jordy Shepherd, Canmore-Banff Real Estate Scholarship Program is designed to support aspiring Guides and Instructors by providing financial assistance toward their ACMG Training and Assessment Program, training and certification.

Jordy Shepherd, Canmore-Banff Real Estate Scholarship applicants must be aspiring guides or instructors and reside in the Bow Valley, AB (Lake Louise, Banff, Canmore, Exshaw, Deadman's Flats, or Cochrane).

Recipients are selected annually by the ACMG Scholarship Committee and receive a $500 Training and Assessment Program tuition credit.
