Mission
The Public Engagement and Services Committee helps identify opportunities for its members to engage with and connect with the public, raising the profile of the ACMG through public promotion. Its mission is to increase mountain safety, stewardship, and participation in mountain travel through education, volunteerism, and public appearances.
Structure
This staff committee includes the ACMG Communications and Engagement Coordinator as chair, three or more ACMG members in good standing, and one or more members of the public. The ACMG President and Executive Director are ex-officio members.
Authority
The chair of the committee is authorized to recruit and guide interested members in conducting research, developing ideas, volunteering, assisting, and advising ACMG Staff, the Board of Directors, and other ACMG committees when requested (Active Advisor). The committee will carry out projects approved by the Executive Director.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Connect as a committee when opportunities for public engagement arise and also share ideas via email or online meetings
- Identify ACMG promotional opportunities
- Identify any obstacles to these opportunities and possible solutions
- Identify benefits these opportunities may present to both ACMG and the public
- Identify potential costs to the ACMG and work with the ACMG Partnership Coordinator to source funding
- Identify and apply for grants related to public engagement when possible
- Assist and advise the Board of Directors and other ACMG Committees when requested to do so
- Assist with ACMG public engagement events through volunteerism or the recruiting of volunteers to participate in events
- Report to the ACMG Board of Directors on policy-related issues when requested
