Mission

The mission of the Professional Practice and Continuing Professional Development Member Audit Committee of the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG) is to aid in ensuring the currency of ACMG members by conducting audits of members’ professional practice and continuing professional development reporting.

Structure

This staff committee includes an active ACMG member as chair and four or more active or inactive ACMG members. Committee members should represent a cross-section of the ACMG disciplines to aid in assigning audits to those members who have relevant experience in the audited member’s discipline(s). The Technical Director will provide committee members with training to enable them to perform member audits successfully. Two committee members will perform each audit.

The term of commitment to the committee is open-ended. All committee members are asked before each audit cycle if they wish to continue serving on the committee. Committee members will be recruited as needed.

If the chair of the committee steps down without a replacement, the Technical Director or a member of the Technical Committee will serve as the interim chair of the committee.

The ACMG President, Executive Director and Technical Director are ex-officio members.

Authority

This staff committee has an Active Agent level of authority, granting it the power to act without requiring immediate approval from the Technical Director, Executive Director or the Board for every decision. However, the Technical Director, Executive Director or Board remains ultimately responsible for their actions and must provide oversight.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provide twice annual audits in the spring, from April to June, and in the fall, from September to November, of twenty randomly selected ACMG members to ensure they are fulfilling their professional practice, continued professional development, scope of practice and first aid certification requirements for their given discipline(s)
  • Contact ACMG members and request information specific to their professional practice and continuing professional development
  • Contact references referred to in a member’s professional practice or continuing professional development reporting
