The Training and Assessment Program's Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) process involves an in depth review of a prospective student's previous training and assessment to determine equivalency to the training and assessment curriculum of an ACMG certificate program.
To complete a PLAR review, the Training and Assessment Program requires the following documentation:
- a course or program outline, curriculum, and competency framework, from a nationally recognized training institution or a formal education program;
- an overview of the assessment process and assessment criteria or grading scheme;
- the name and address of the training institution or educational program;
- contact information for the course or program administrator;
- a program or course completion certificate; and
- evidence of industry currency through continued professional development and/or work experience.
The Training and Assessment Program levies an initial PLAR intake application fee of $110 per certificate program, and a subsequent PLAR review fee of $450 - $750 per certificate program once a student's PLAR application has been accepted for review. Based on the complexity of the PLAR request, the Training and Assessment Program may require several months to complete their review and issue a determination. In some instances, PLAR students may need to meet additional requirements before a final determination is released.
Prospective applicants are encouraged to carefully compare their prior learning and previous assessment, against the Training and Assessment Program's prerequisites, training course structures, and the ACMG Scope of Practice competencies. If reasonable alignment exists, prospective PLAR student applications can be submitted online using the online Training and Assessment Program PLAR Application Form.
