Travel Insurance

ACMG partner, Acera Insurance offers travel insurance options through TuGo Travel Insurance. Many ACMG members travel for work and play. Having emergency medical coverage is essential to peace of mind when visiting other lands.

One of the problems inherent in this kind of insurance, though, is what’s known as The Professional Sport Clause. This clause essentially excludes you from coverage if you are injured while guiding or instructing an activity from which you earn the majority of your personal income. For an additional flat fee ACMG members are covered for high risk activities. Also included in the package is coverage for trip cancellation, trip interruption, accidental death and dismemberment, baggage insurance (single trips only) and rental car protection (single trips only).

If you have a pre-existing medical condition, you are not necessarily excluded from coverage. Please read the appropriate sections carefully if this applies to you. There is also an option for you to provide access to coverage for visitors coming to Canada.

Weekly Accident Indemnity (WAI) Insurance

The Weekly Accident Indemnity (WAI) insurance is optional for all active ACMG members who purchase Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) insurance.

WAI covers loss of earnings due to injury from an accident. The indemnity will pay up to 60% of weekly insured earnings (from all work sources) to a maximum of $ 800 per week for a maximum of 26 weeks. There is a 21-day waiting period from the date of disability until benefits start. If unemployed at the time of disability, earnings will be calculated based on income received from the best 9 of the last 12 months. Self-employed earnings will be calculated on employment income reported on the previous year’s income tax return. Benefits may be reduced by benefits payable under Work Safe BC, WCB, CPP, QPP, automobile insurance, group disability and retirement plans, or other individual disability plans, so that total benefits do not exceed 60% of pre-disability earnings.

Active ACMG members under age 70, who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents living in Canada, and covered under the provincial health insurance plan in their province of residence are eligible for this insurance coverage. The policy year is from January 1 through December 31 (premiums are not prorated). Employers may reimburse the cost of premiums as a benefit of employment.
