Code of Conduct:
The ACMG Code of Conduct (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ki2Y5aeSejvc90ixf8F3hEiTE1lX1K5d/view?usp=sharing) is a key governance document guiding our members' behaviour to promote professionalism and risk management best practices, safeguarding the public interest in mountain travel. The conduct review complaints process ensures public accountability, aims for client satisfaction, and fosters friendly relations among ACMG members. While the preferred approach is educational, with recommended remedies such as procedural changes, additional training, or behavioural adjustments, the ACMG may also impose other sanctions, including suspension or expulsion from the Association.
If you believe an ACMG member has violated a section of its Code of Conduct, you may submit a formal complaint by completing a complaint form (https://www.cognitoforms.com/ACMG/ACMGCodeOfConductComplaintForm). Complaints are usually not accepted anonymously, as we believe anyone formally accused of an ACMG Code of Conduct breach has the right to know all the details of the complaint. If you prefer not to file a complaint yourself, you can send the details of your concern to our Executive Committee, and the ACMG Board of Directors might file a complaint at their discretion.
A Preliminary Review Committee (PRC) will examine the matter to determine if your complaint falls under the jurisdiction of the Code of Conduct and if it has grounds. If the PRC establishes jurisdiction and finds your complaint to be valid, it may suggest a remedy or recommend that a Conduct Review Hearing be held, where all parties will have the chance to present their case before an impartial panel that includes non-ACMG members. Please be aware that when submitting your complaint, it is important to include any evidence you possess. Also, remember that the CRC is not a legislative body and does not have the authority to force anyone to provide evidence.
Confidentiality and Disclosure
In the event the complaint proceeds to a Conduct Review Hearing, all information gathered and presented shall be kept confidential during the proceedings. However, such information may be disclosed publicly if it is included in the final reasoned decision issued by the Conduct Review Hearing or an Appeal Panel. Hearings are not conducted publicly; after the matter is concluded, the final reasoned decision of the Conduct Review Hearing or an Appeal Panel will be made public. The purpose of this disclosure is to promote transparency and educate the ACMG members. The disclosure will include:
- Name of the Responding Party
- Name of Principal Party
- A summary of the complaint
- A summary of the CRH or Appeal Panel decision
- Sanctions imposed, if any
Anti-Harassment and Prohibited Conduct
The ACMG is committed to providing a safe, healthy, and rewarding environment where everyone is treated with respect and dignity. We believe in a culture free of harassment, discrimination, violence, and bullying - allowing everyone to contribute fully, having equal access to opportunities and all that the mountains have to offer. The ACMG does not tolerate any form of harassment, discrimination, violence, or bullying. Complaints under the ACMG's Anti-Harassment and Prohibited Conduct Policy for Members (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1QyyNcG_YvapM4-GulDTKJ0h2UvedssqF/view?usp=sharing) can be made only through the ACMG's private and secure Prohibited Conduct Reporting Form (https://www.cognitoforms.com/ACMG/ProhibitedConductReportingForm).
Scope of Practice
The ACMG Scope of Practice (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1nw7R5YVU3mXkDIkPOhzvJnh7p3WQP957/view?usp=sharing) provides structure and direction for the activities and terrain that are acceptable or not, within each ACMG discipline. In short, the ACMG Scope of Practice reflects activities and terrain addressed in ACMG training and certification courses. Organizations that offer employment to ACMG guides and instructors should ensure that work expectations, staff training, professional development, and workplace policies and support are congruent with the ACMG Scope of Practice framework. The main purpose of the ACMG Scope of Practice is to ensure that ACMG members work within their activity and terrain parameters, and provide an experience where risk is managed and safety is a key priority. ACMG members and their employers are expected to fully comprehend the ACMG Scope of Practice relative to the discipline of mountain activity the member is employed in.
