Mission
The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee helps the ACMG to support the development and sustainability of an inclusive and equitable culture within the association, where all people feel a sense of safety and belonging; free from stigma, discrimination and harassment of any kind.
Structure
This committee is composed of a chairperson and a minimum of three other ACMG members in good standing. The ACMG President and Executive Director are ex-officio members.
Authority
The committee is empowered to recruit and guide interested members to conduct research, develop ideas, volunteer, assist and advise ACMG Staff, the Board of Directors and other ACMG committees when requested to do so (Active Advisor). The committee will carry out projects approved by the Executive Director.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Recommend and advise on DEI initiatives and CPDs
- Make recommendations to policy, guideline and training changes related to diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Support DEI initiatives through brainstorming, ideation and discussion
- Advocate on behalf of underrepresented groups
- Survey and inform ACMG membership on the status of DEI within the ACMG and guiding culture in general
- Support and increase conversation and awareness of the importance of DEI for ACMG culture
- Report to and advise the ACMG Executive Director and Board of Directors when requested to do so
- Recruit new members as necessary
