Access Committee

Mission

The Access committee helps safeguard ACMG member access to the land by promoting responsible tourism practices, building better relationships between the guiding industry and the public, raising the ACMG’s profile with land managers, and advising the ACMG on land access issues. Its mission is to ensure the ACMG is aware of access-related issues that could negatively impact access to guiding activities while also working to find ways to resolve these issues.

Structure

This committee includes the ACMG Assistant Technical Director and one ACMG member in good standing as co-chairs, three or more additional ACMG members in good standing, and one or more members of the public. The ACMG President and Executive Director are ex-officio members.

Authority

Working within the framework of the ACMG Access Protection Strategy, the committee is empowered to inform the Executive Director of any access-related issues that arise and provide recommendations for actions to address them (Active Advisor). The committee will seek guidance from the Executive Director in resolving access-related matters. This committee is authorized and encouraged to educate ACMG members about access-related stewardship initiatives and share stewardship tools that members can use to enhance their relationships within communities. The committee will carry out projects approved by the Executive Director.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Connect as a committee when access-related issues arise and also share ideas via email or online meetings
• Provide a conduit for members to report access concerns to the association
• Research relevant information on access issues
• Represent the ACMG at access-related meetings when requested
• Make recommendations for developing educational tools and resources to help ACMG members navigate various existing land use policies
• Provide strategic recommendations to the Executive Director on access issues and relationship building with land managers and officials
• Participate in community outreach in an effort to foster better relations in areas where access-related issues have arisen
• Report to the ACMG Board of Directors on policy-related issues when requested
• Report to and advise the ACMG Executive Director and Board of Directors when requested to do so
• Recruit new members as necessary
