  • Via Ferrata Guides lead clients on climbing or exposed scrambling routes that are protected using special safety equipment.

  • The course will focus on safety and guiding techniques used to lead via ferrata routes that have staightforward access to the start and finish. Previous via ferrata experience is not required.

  • The certification is limited to Class ‘A’ via ferrata routes, which at this time include Mt Norquay, Kicking Horse and Sea to Sky. Contact us if you have questions about other locations.

  • Via Ferrata Guides work with supervision provided by organizations such as adventure companies and ski resorts or from Mountain, Alpine or Rock guides who have appropriate experience and training.





Requirements For Entry
  • You must be at least 19 years of age.
  • Proof of a current Standard First Aid and CPR course - 16 hours
  • Minimum guiding qualification (Assistant Hiking Guide, Apprentice Ski Guide, Apprentice Rock Guide) or Top Rope Climbing Instructor
  • Submit a skills resume showing:
    • Related training courses
    • Climbing resume (Hiking or Ski Guides only)
    • 1 – 2 paragraphs about your background and goals related to becoming a via ferrata guide.
    • Other information you feel is pertinent
    • Proof of guiding qualification (or TRCI certificate)

  • History of via ferrata
  • Via ferrata standards
  • Via ferrata equipment, use and limitations
  • Hazards
  • Operational guides meeting
  • Client safety briefings and equipment fitting
  • Waiver delivery
  • Group management
  • Belays
  • Rescue systems
  • Interpretation
